Review of the Citizen BL5250

This is more then just a minor annoyance; it has deterred me fromusing the ALM and L-TM features for anything except testing.The alarm on the BL5250 is not especially loud. I didn't expect something that could wake me up or that I could hear at a concert, but it is not loud enough to be all that useful. The volume was very similar to the beeps from a Timex Ironman as the features arechanged.Lastly, the handbags comes in a standard circular Citizenzippered box and is fitted to a medium brown faux leather strap withcontrasting Breitling-style stitching.The 2 o'clock register willshow the elapsed minutes, and the large second hand reflects the chronographseconds. I found this somewhat inconvenient as the chronograph should activate when the 2 o'clock pusher is pressed; switching to the chronograph feature should be automatic as the pushers won't commonly be used for anything else. Having to go through two stepsforced me to leave the BL5250 in the "CHR" mode all the time,forfeiting normal seconds.The next issue involves the "L-TM" and "ALM"modes. Both require the nice watches to move the hour and minute hands to setpoints. The L-TM mode will show a second time zone (theoreticallyhandy for travelers) and the ALM mode shows the current timesetting for the alarm. The BL5250 takes a very long time to change from thecurrent time to either of these values since the hands move slowly, cannot jump between AM and PM, and will only advance in a counter-clockwise fashion. When testing this, I simply removed the mon handbags from my wrist and went to get something to drink.

Review: The Poljot Traveller Alarm

he Traveller is an example of the unique, interesting, and completely functional options available for less than department store prices when hunting online. A little searching and you may very well find yourself with something as charming as The Traveller. Is this the best man watches for $100? Hardly -- but for $100, it will be very difficult to find something this unique.     .Once the crown is extended, one can turn to set thetime of the alarm. This is accurate to the position of the hour handso fine adjustments may be off by a couple of minutes. When the hour handmeets the alarm hand, a tiny hammer rapidly strikes the inside of thecase. Its intensity (and therefore volume) is relative to the amount the alarm crown waswound. I would not describe the alarm as loud, but it is more noticeable then the digital alarm on the Citizen BL5250 I have recently been wearing.Regular timekeeping is done by the Poljot 2612 which isa 19 jewel mechanical hand wound movement with a power reserve of about42 hours. The 2612 is rated to be accurate to -20 to +60 seconds a day, and my model was well within that, running around +30 (although farworse if left case-down in my my watches cabinet). The movement seems to bewell built with no rattle or excessive noise emanating from the case;that said, the Russian 2612 movement does not hold a candle to what can be found in its Japanese counterparts for quality and accuracy, but it does maintain a cheaper price then most Swiss options.  The ticking of the watch doesn't not sound like any other mechanical I have ever owned. The only reason I would even mention this is because the sound is very distinct in that it is exactly like the portrayal of a ticking time bomb in a movie. It is a great and tactile sound, I will often listen to the first few seconds after a winding. The Traveller isapparently limited to 1000 pieces, and the case-back is engravedwith its serial number. A *** search of Russian luxury watches sites willreveal models still available for sale. I was able to procure this watch online for less than $100 shipped.

Review of the Casio Pathfinder PAG40

I immediately took it hiking! On the wrist, the three color scheme is not overly ostentatious, and of course the functionality and readability are excellent. I like the fact that day, date, month, year, and time are all visible at once, yet it'Uncluttered and reads well.Compared to the ultimate Pathfinder, the PAG40-7V lacks solar power, radio set, countdown timer, and moonphase/tides, but not much else. We still have the shrouded buttons, similar displays, and overall functionality at a fraction of the cost. The PAW1500T-7V is $350 or $400 for strap vs bracelet respectively; the watches brand is $200.Probably the biggest news with the PAG40-7V isn't about the watch at all, but it's availability. This model will be exclusive to Amazon.com, which is a first. Amazon sells a lot of seiko online, demonstrably enough to make it worth Casio's while. This is a trend we'll be keeping an eye on, as it might not be well received by other retailers or distributors. It's too soon to tell what the effect on us as watch customers will be. Getting back to the actual seiko for you, it' pretty normal Pathfinder -- the nice seiko you grab when it's time to get outside. It works well as a daily wearer, but the 53mm width is a bit large for most of us at the office. That said, the display is super-large and thus easier to read, especially the time, altitude, compass bearing, or pressure displayed on the large center digits. The use of a second LCD layer for the compass is a treat, as you can see here, with north indicated by triple needles and the the other cardinal directions lit up, as well, for quick orientation. Simple and effective. The nearest-quadrant abbreviation (NNW shown here) is displayed as well, allowing both precise and approximate readings.

Review of the Phosphor Ana

The whole screen redraws for every update, which takes some getting used to as does the slow (one second) refresh (which is common to e-ink -- even the Kindle).I like the design of this seiko. It has a clean, unfussy look of satin and polished finishes, and the non-tapering bracelet nicely balances the substantial heft of the watch. The crown is signed, and the two buttons control the digital display.One of the exciting developments in the past few years has been the introduction of a new kind of display called "electronic ink" or "e-ink." Unlike LCD displays in many ways, it looks more like watch and opens up some interesting avenues for new nice bell & ross designs. Today's review is of the Phosphor Ana-Digi, an analog-digital watch with an e-ink display. Specifications include:45mm by 13mm, about 190g.3-hand analog movement, unsynchronized with the digital, set via the signed crown.Lumed hour and minute hands.Multi-mode digital display - white/black or black/white, with selectable displays of hour markers, date and time.Waterproof to 50m (150').Stainless steel case and band, domed mineral crystal. Bracelet is 24mm, non-tapering, center section polished with pushbutton release and fliplock.Read on for the full review.The analog movement is quite basic, just hours/minutes/seconds, with quick-fading luminous paint. Note that the analog and quartz movements are separate, which is both a pro and a con: You can set different times for traveling, but on the other hand, its annoying if they drift apart.The showcase of this bell & ross is the e-ink display. As you can see from the pictures, it has incredibly high contrast, a 180 degree viewing angle and looks almost like newsprint. The blacks are speckled with white and vice-versa. It's very easy on the eyes.

Although in general I was very happy with the BL5250, there are some issues to point out.The bell ross can be cycled through features by turning the crownwhen it's in the "0" position (setting the time and date use thetraditional "1" and "2" pull-out positions). By turning the crown, one can clickthrough the "time," "CHR," "L-TM," and "ALM" settings (the 6 o'clockregister points to the active function). So, to activate thechronograph, one must advance the crown clockwise one click, then pushthe 2 o'clock pusher to start the chronograph.Throughout the watch collectingworld, one often hears of the "grail watch." Theseare generally watches that an enthusiast has been lusting after forsome time and plans to one-day own, but due to cost, rarity, or both, immediate ownership is not possible. Most watch collectorshave not only a grail watch, but a list of grails.
